Last weekend, my husband and I attended a friends wedding at the Sundy House in Delray Beach. I never had the opportunity to visit the location and it wasn’t on my radar when I was looking at wedding venues. If you are not familiar with the property, here is the rundown according to their website:
Located in the heart of historic downtown Delray Beach, the Sundy House is a boutique hotel listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Experience the award-winning Sundy House Restaurant, the elegant Roux Bamboux Lounge, and our natural swimming pond. Just 20 minutes from Palm Beach International Airport and one hour north of Miami, our superb location is ideal among other South Florida hotels whether traveling for business or pleasure. This Delray Beach hotel is mere steps from shopping, dining and cultural events, and just a mile from the beach.
So, back to the wedding. I was immediately impressed with the location the second we pulled up. Especially because they have an awesome ivy lined wall on the side of the building, which is an amazing back drop for photos. But, all photo opportunities aside, the venue was clean and everyone working there was super friendly and nice. One thing that caught my attention was the wedding coordinator on duty. Not only did he make sure everyone was in the right place at the right time, he brought the bride and groom a plate of hors d’oeuvres while they were having their photos taken…It seems insignificant, but it’s the little details that make a world of difference.
Dear Brides,
During your last walk through meeting with your venue and wedding coordinator make sure you tell someone to bring you a plate of food during cocktail hour. You will not have time to eat, you’ll wish you tasted at least one appetizer (that you paid for) and you’ll be starving after the ceremony. Trust me…I didn’t have a handy plate of food during cocktail hour, and I am still living with regret.

By the way, the hors d’oeuves at the wedding were delicious…And dinner was served buffet style. Although, I was not a fan of the dinner options, the food was good and there was a lot of it- It just wasn’t my ideal meal. On the other hand, I think my husband helped himself to three plates. So it was obviously good.
As far as price point, I am not sure how much the venue costs. I definitely recommend checking out the Sundy House if you are looking for a vintage location with an old Hollywood feel. It actually reminded me of the Bonnet House, just a little smaller, with an on-site restaurant and a hotel. It’s a win-win if that’s what you’re looking for. Here’s a few photos from the event. Enjoy!
The Sundy House has a bunch of hanging lantern, gazebos and pretty ponds. They have tons of places for pictures and there are so many things to look at.
The ceremony was held outside on the lawn. You can dress up the space or keep it simple, like the bride decided at this particular wedding. I would have added a few hanging chandeliers, a really awesome runner, a few flowers and a harpist. But hey, to each his own.
The reception had a mix of indoor and outdoor seating. The room was completely open, so it worked.
Like I said before, the space can be dressed up or dressed down. If you’re on a budget you can opt for a simple set up and the venue would still look amazing. It’s a really pretty space, and there are tons of decor options.
Want more information? Call the Sundy House at 561-272-5678 to schedule an appointment. Oh, and, let me know how it goes. I might not be planning a wedding anymore, but I’m always ready to plan a great party.
Happy planning! xoxo
